5B Classroom News: Week of Dec. 9th

A note from Mrs. Burke:
The winter concert was spectacular! I am so proud of how the students performed. They were fantastic role models for all of the younger students.

The 5th grade is involved in giving a gift through Heifer Project International, an organization that provides families with gifts of livestock and training to care for their livestock. This enables poverty stricken families to become more self-reliant. Families who receive an animal also learn how to care for that animal so that it can help provide for the family. Some animals that we might be able to give include goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, honey bees, chicks, ducks or geese. We are holding a raffle to raise money for Heifer Project International. For a donation of 50 cents, you can purchase a ticket and help a needy family in our country, or in one of the other 115 countries that Heifer Project International reaches. The more money we raise, the more animals we can give! If we raise a lot of money, we could even provide a family with a heifer, a water buffalo, or a llama. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause. All raffle tickets and money need to be turned in by 12/19/19.

Thank you to those who have purchased items from our Yankee Candle Fundraiser. We greatly appreciate your support. Every purchase helps us raise money for our end-of-the-year activities. I have included a Yankee Candle Fundraiser link on the right hand side of this post. If you order, please make sure you include our group number which is 990006902. Thank you for your consideration.

Why did you draw a self-portrait similar to the cover of the book Wonder?

What are some of the words you wrote on your portrait to describe yourself?

Why did you choose one word to write over your eye, and which word did you choose?

We drew a  self-portrait similar to the cover of the book Wonder because we are reading Wonder in class. Some of the words I put on my poster are loyal,Trinidad, Tobgo, short, Big sister, Little sister and talkative. I chose one word to write over your eye because it describes me the most. I chose “BRAVE” because when my mom was pregnant with my sister she needed to go down stairs to check everything to make sure it was locked and off even though I was scared I still went and today I am proud of myself.
-Triv-Ann

We did this because we are reading the book and that was what we where doing in art and I chose  adventurous for my word over my eye because I love to go on adventures, it's so much fun! And that's why I choose my word over my eye.

We drew our self-portraits similar to the cover of the book Wonder with words
because we wanted to show that it matters what you are like on the inside, not
how you look on the outside.  Some of the words that I wrote on my portrait

I am curious about many things.

The reason why we chose to make self portraits that are similar to the cover of
