5B Classroom News: Week of Dec. 2nd

A note from Mrs. Burke:
I hope everyone had a relaxing break last week with family and friends. This week we jumped into a new social studies unit called Regions of the United States. Students have been learning about the Northeast region. We thought the Northeast was a good region to start with since we live in this region. Below you will find their initial reflections about this unit.

Here are some pictures from the Properties of Matter unit that we finished just before the break.

I have also included pictures from a discussion we had with Mrs. Whitney, our librarian, about Esperanza Rising. Mrs. Whitney used to live and teach in California and she had connections to the book because while living in California she taught students whose parents were migrant workers. She also read a book to the class about Cesar Chavez who was an activist for human rights. This was another connection to the human rights students have been learning about while reading Esperanza Rising. We greatly appreciate the time Mrs. Whitney spent with us, sharing her experiences as a teacher in California.

The PTO is hosting an online book fair that is open until December 13th. If you place an order it will be shipped directly to your house. Please click on this link to learn more and support our PTO.
