Math:
We are learning how to do ratio tables, doubling and halving, 5 is half of ten, and more in math to solve bigger problems.
----Addyson

We are doing problem strings and we are doing an over and under strategy. If you don't know what that is I’ll show you. It's when you're trying to solve a problem like 24 times 14 you add one more to the 24, then find that, then subtract one group 14, then you get the answer.  Also, we have been doing ratio tables, and we are doing a fun multiplication facts for 3’s and 4’s.  For 3’s we count up 30, and for 4’s we count up to 40. We are also doing doing facts for 6 times 6, 7 times 7, 7 times 6, and more. Math is very fun this year and I am hoping for fun things in 5th grade math.
~ Colby

I’ve been learning my multiplication facts.
-Julian

In math we are working on the over strategy. SO FUN.
-Larkyn

In math we are working on the over strategy and how to use it.

We sorted our binders because there is so much paper that it got messy.
---Addyson

We are reading about the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) and we are organizing our binders, and we did a thing called Quill, a typing thing when we correct sentences.
~Colby

Esperanza Rising shows you a lot about workers rights.
-Jamie

We are on a new chapter and mama is getting forced by the uncles to marry one of them and she is going to get her life ruined because mama was told, “You will regret this,” by one of the uncles. The uncles are bad. They are some mean guys and they are sitting in papa's chair and wearing his belt buckle.
~Colby

We have been learning about what life was like for a Mexican family when the husband dies.
-Bennett

We wrote a paragraph about workers rights and to get money for working.
-Jamie

We are learning about the human rights and how they are being violated in our language arts read aloud, Esperanza Rising.
---Addyson

We had to write a summary about Article 23 of the UDHR.  Article 23 was about workers rights.  It explains how workers should get paid the same amount as they work and more.
---Addyson

We had to do an article summary about workers rights and I wrote 10 lines. We had to do a paragraph about what Article 23 of the UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) and workers rights are when people get paid equal and have the right to work wherever and whenever, and also people are being mean and not giving people the same amount for the same job. Also, people are getting forced to work someplace that they don't want to work at and for an example, we watched a short video clip.  In the clip the boy that was washing cars had only got 5 bucks and the other people got paid more. The boy said, “You got it wrong,” and the manager said, “Check your math.”  Then the boss comes in and looks at the amount of money then he said to the manager, “How about you check your math.” People are getting treated like trash and there should be a minimum wage.
~ Colby

In language arts we have been writing summaries on Article 23 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). We learned what makes a good summary. About five sentences long. Your summary should not be an essay (which I am a little disappointed about). Don’t go into too many details, it’s only a paragraph!

We have been reading this book called Blood on theRiver and there is a boy that is a helper to Captain John Smith and they are sailing to the new world (aka U.S.A).
-Jocelyn

We have been reading this book called Blood on the River.  So far it is about men on a ship going to the U.S.A.
----Addyson

A colony is a group of people controlled by another country.
-Colby

Blood on the River is about a kid who lost his parents and he went to the adoption center and people sent him to a colony. He is heading to a beach and he is from England with another boy who he punched in the mouth and got his tooth knocked out and they are heading to Virginia and they are almost there then the captain gets sick then they may have a fight then…... the story is a cliffhanger.
~Colby

A colony is a lot of people that go on to a ship and cross the ocean to the new world and build a small town and live there for a year or two and then they go back to where they came from and get supplies and more people and go back to the new world.
--Alex

At school we are reading Blood on the River. It's such a good book and I can't wait to read more.
-Chandler

We have been learning about colonization.  Some ways we have been doing this is by reading a book (Blood on the River) about how colonization happened in areas in the south like where Virginia is.  This book is quite a cliffhanger!
-Bennett

In social studies we are learning about colonization. We are learning about the New England colonies now, but we will be getting into more of the 13 original colonies soon. I am soooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
---Paige

In social studies we have all been learning about colonies. We have been learning about the New England colonies, and a couple different colonies soon, and I’m so excited to learn about other colonies that were formed from the past. There were mostly 13 different colonies in the past that we are going be learning about soon, and I'm so hyped about it!
~ Lyssette

Blood On The River is very interesting. I can't wait to read more.
-Jamie

We are learning about colonization and are reading an awesome book called Blood on the River. This has been a great start to social studies!
-Nolan

Blood on the River is so good. It talks about a boy who stole his mother's locket and this man who takes care of the locket and takes it back from the boy who then has to go to a orphanage. After the trip to the orphanage they have to go on a trip to bring wood back. On the way there they get sea sick and have to sit on slop buckets and much worse. It is very interesting.

We are learning about rumors and how they are harmful.
---Addyson

We are having problems with gossip. Gossip is a rumor that gets spread all around a school. For example, if a girl and boy are talking and someone tells a lie about them liking each other.
~Colby

Rumors are not good, and we are working together to stop them.
-Bennett

People were spreading rumors, but once we watched some videos the spreading of rumors stopped.
-Jamie

RUMORS ARE BAD!!!!!
-Chandler

Rumors are very bad and hurt many people.
-Faith

Rumors should not be a thing. I want Donald trump to ban rumors!!!
---Makayla

Rumors should not be about anyone or anything in general.
~ Lily

PAWS Squad:

The PAWS SQUAD just did a skit on bathroom expectations. It seems so simple, but students at OQS are forgetting bathroom expectations. The skit was quite funny. It was about secret agents who are teaching Dr. Despicable and her followers to keep the bathrooms clean.
