5B Classroom News: Week of January 14th

A note from Mrs. Burke:
Students learned more about the structures of matter this week. The posters they made to help them understand the difference between a solid, liquid, and gas can be found later in this post. They have also been learning how to write an opinion piece about the American Revolution in language arts. Miss Keel came to our classroom to continue her lesson on cyber bullying. Our Random Acts of Kindness bulletin board is still having a positive impact. Keep reading to see what our student reporters wrote about this week.

What have you learned about solids, liquids and gasses that helped you create your Structures of Matter poster?

What I learned in science is that there's liquid, gas, and solids.
-Cash

It’s fun to learn about matter. So far I learned a lot about solids, liquids, and gases.
-Jack

What I have learned about solids is that a solid is, “a state of matter that has a definite volume and a definite shape. “Some examples of solids are me, carrots, paper, and pencils. What I have learned about liquids is that a liquid is, “a state of matter that has a definite volume but does not have a definite shape. “Some examples of liquids are milk, water, liquid soap, olive oil, juice, and vinegar. What I have learned about gasses is that a gas is, “a state of matter that doesn’t have a definite volume or shape.” Some examples of gasses are steam, smoke, water vapor, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and sulfur dioxide. Solids, liquids and gasses are very interesting and I can’t wait to learn more about them!
-Flynn

That you can melt an ice cube for like an hour and it will go from a solid to a liquid to a gas.
-Zachary

Solids, liquids, and gases are all states of matter. We had to think of what the
matter of pictures out of a magazine were.

Class with Ms. Keel
What did you learn during class with Ms. Keel this week?

We learned about cyber bullying.
-Jayden

What we learned during class with Miss. Keel this week is to be aware of your social thinking. She also talked to us about thinking before we say because once we say something we can’t take it back. You should always be aware of what you say because if you say the wrong thing at the wrong time, you can hurt one or more people’s feelings.
-Flynn

In class with Ms. Keel, we learned more about cyber-bullying and how much
time we spend on computers. We need to socialize more with people like family.
I’m not the one that likes to go to parties. But hanging out with family, I could
improve on. We WERE starting a schedule of “No device day” on Thursdays.
Being social can help you get caught up with hanging out with friends more.
We should (as 10-11 year olds) be able to communicate on our own. But it
always seems like our parents are forcing us to get off. You should WANT to
spend time with family and friends.
-Braelyn

What I learned during class with Ms.Keel is that you should think some things rather than say them.
-Zachary

We learned about social thinking and how we should think before saying things, and how a lot of people lose their social thinking when only playing video games.
-Aubree
