5B Classroom News: Week of May 1st

National Walk to School Day on Friday
Today we walked from the community green to school. Some people were grouped by their parents, others were grouped by their bus driver. It was a long walk to school and when we got to school we had to wait longer for our teacher to get to school because she was directing students where to go on the walk to school path, and then when we got to our classroom our teacher showed up.

Our Second Step Lesson This Week
This week during Second Step we learned about peer pressure.  We watched some videos about peer pressure.  They taught us how deal with it.  You should not go along with bad peer pressure just because other people are doing it or because they are calling you names.

Science
In science we are working on our biomes.  People are doing slide shows, dioramas, information booths, brochures, news reports, skits, informational video, and much, much more. The biomes are desert, freshwater, taiga, tundra, marine, deciduous forest, tropical rain forest, and grasslands.  I am doing the desert with Sonya and Brayden. Sonya is doing a brochure, Brayden is doing a slide show, and I’m doing a diorama.

Reading:  Learning About the American Revolution
In our reading groups we are reading a book called Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen.  In our reading groups we have to answer questions that are in the book, so we have to skim it to find the answers.  I personally like to do the reading groups because I like reading books about the Revolutionary War.  That is what we are doing in our reading groups.
